Katy Perry - Teenage Dream Review
Teenage Dream is the perfect pool party pop gem! Its the soundtrack to summer and a winter warmer. Miles better than debut "One of the Boys" but still keeping to her quirky lyrics and unforgettable melodies.
"California Gurls" sets the tone for the album as Perry chases an all-American teen pop sound. In "The One That Got Away" the lyrics set the scene: "Summer after high school, when we first met/We'd make out in your Mustang to Radiohead." From there, she just piles on the sun-drenched drama.
Perry admits her inspiration cites vintage movie stars like Jane Russell and Liz Taylor as her, and you can hear that all over her music. Keeping to the pop formula Katy Perry belts out a few ballads such as "Not Like the Movies" about her tragic love life, and meltdowns Hollywood-size.
The tracks are reminiscent of Eighties beats, light on melody, and take a dip into disco house. Russell Brand is the hot topic for a few songs on Dream, the delightful balland "Hummingbird Heartbeat", and you can understand how in love she is with him on "Pearl".
Perry likes her songs chatty and the ideal example of this is "Last Friday Night" which along with "Peacock" these will keep you humming all day long and certain to drive you wild with delight!
Showing her Christian upbringing on "Who Am I Living For" Perry sings about the biblical story of Esther, the Jewish orphan who married the Persian king and uncovered a plot to exterminate the Jews. It's dark and compelling, especially since she sings it like Rihanna.
"Circle the Drain" is my favourite track on this album. It is an edgy pop song with a rock twist. But she is more at home with the light romance of "The One That Got Away" where she and the guy get matching tattoos on her 18th birthday.
New single "Firework" is a brilliant song, with its uptempo beats and heartfelt lyrics its sure to light your fire.
Overall Teenage Dream is a fun, heartfelt edgy piece of perfect pop!

Total Biz Review: Pixie Lott "Turn It Up (Louder)
TURN IT UP (LOUDER) is the latest offering from Miss Pixie Lott as she returns with a re-release of her smash hit debut album as a deluxe version that boasts 10 bonus tracks.
Lott polishes up her mainstream credentials with new single Broken Arrow and a duet with man of the moment Jason Derulo.
All the hits are here, Mama Do, Cry Me out, Turn It Up and the fantastic Gravity. This album showcases Pixies maturity in her 19 years, and brings sultry pop to the charts.
Kings of Leon classic Use Somebody is covered on this album, it was featured on the debut single as a B-side, she delivers this song acoustically and puts her strong vocal range to good use!
But her cover of the David Guetta and Kelly Rowland track When Love Takes Over is pretty tepid, this hit is still fairly recent I think it was too soon to cover such a great dance song.
Highlights of the new tracks have to be Without You and Want You. My favourite track is the last one on this album and I predict a potential Christmas hit with Catching Snowflakes.
Daniel Bedingfield penned Can’t Make This Over is a ballad that does little to grab your attention but is well worth a listen.
Overall there is enough decent new songs to make this worth releasing but still makes me question the intent. Why not record a couple more tunes and release a brand new album completely? Still a very good offering from the unstoppable Pixie Lott.
